Couples in Kompally and across Hyderabad often wait longer than they should before seeing a fertility specialist — usually because they were told to “try for a year,” or because they hoped lifestyle changes alone would be enough. Waiting is sometimes right. Often it quietly costs months you cannot buy back.
This guide is about timing: when a visit to a centre such as Sree Nandaka IVF in Kompally is useful, and when watchful waiting still makes sense. It complements our earlier article on when to see a fertility specialist, with a clearer local focus for Hyderabad readers.
The conventional “one year” rule — and when it does not apply
If you are under 35, have regular cycles, and neither partner has a known fertility issue, trying for about 12 months before specialist review is a reasonable default. After 35, most guidelines shorten that to about six months. Those clocks start from regular, unprotected intercourse — not from the day you first worried.
See a specialist sooner — without waiting out the full interval — if any of the following apply:
- Age 35 or above (earlier review protects options)
- Irregular or absent periods, suspected PCOS, or known endometriosis
- Prior pelvic infection, surgery, or chemotherapy / radiotherapy
- Two or more miscarriages
- Known sperm issues, undescended testis history, or prior urological surgery
- One partner has a chronic illness or takes medicines that affect fertility
- You are planning pregnancy delay and want advice on egg freezing or ovarian reserve
Best time in your cycle to book the first visit
You do not need to be on a particular day of your cycle to have a first consultation. History-taking and planning can happen any day. Some blood tests (for example certain hormones) are timed to the early follicular phase; semen analysis can be done after two to five days of abstinence. Your specialist will sequence tests so you are not making extra trips.
If your periods are unpredictable, do not delay booking until a “perfect” cycle day — irregular cycles are themselves a reason to be seen.
How long should you try lifestyle changes first?
Stopping smoking, moderating alcohol, checking vitamin D and thyroid, and moving toward a healthier BMI all help. They are not a reason to postpone assessment indefinitely when age or history already argue for review. Think of lifestyle work as running alongside investigation, not as a six-month substitute for it.
When IUI or IVF timing matters more than “trying longer”
After basic tests, some people are steered toward ovulation induction or IUI for a limited number of well-timed cycles. Others move toward IVF / ICSI because tubal factor, severe male factor, or ovarian reserve make further delay low-yield. The “best time” is then clinical — not calendar folklore about auspicious months.
If you have already completed several IUI cycles elsewhere without success, bring those records to a second-opinion visit rather than repeating the same protocol by default.
Practical timing for Kompally / Hyderabad patients
- Working couples: morning monitoring slots are common during treatment; plan flexibility before you start a stimulated cycle.
- Out-of-town or NRI: a first consult and baseline tests can often be clustered; see travelling for treatment.
- Same-week concerns: acute pain, heavy bleeding, or suspected infection need urgent gynaecology care — not a routine fertility queue.
